The Rig, the eerie Prime Video series about a mysterious fog that engulfs an oil rig off the Scottish coast, is set to resume production later this year in Edinburgh, Scotland. The show stars Martin Compston (Line of Duty), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) and Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek), who will reprise their roles as the surviving crew members.
The first season, which debuted in January, followed the harrowing ordeal of the Kishorn Bravo oil rig crew, who were cut off from the outside world by a sinister fog that hid unspeakable horrors.
Season 2 will take the story to a new level, as the survivors are airlifted from the rig and transported to a different location, where they will face new dangers and challenges. They will also have to deal with the aftermath of their traumatic experience, as well as the secrets and conspiracies that surround them and the mysterious forces that lurk in the depths of the ocean.
The Rig is produced by Wild Mercury Productions, a Banijay company, and filmed at First Stage Studios.
The series is created by David Macpherson and directed by John Strickland, who are also executive producers along with Derek Wax, the founder of Wild Mercury. Suzanne Reid is the producer, while Matt Brown is the co-producer.
Macpherson said: “In series two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our excellent cast, as we deliver more shocks and thrills and delve deeper into both our characters’ and our show’s expanding original mythology.”
The returning cast also includes Rochenda Sandall (Criminal: UK), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones) Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), Abraham Popoola (Cruella), and Stuart McQuarrie (Des).
The Rig is the second UK original drama from Amazon to get a renewal in recent months, following The Devil’s Hour.
